I grew up in Flagstaff, Arizona, a lovely little mountain town within an hour of the Grand Canyon, a ski resort, beautiful red rock deserts, a volcanic field, the painted desert, the Navajo Nation, and so much more. Being close to all these things allowed me to have a childhood full of diverse adventures and finding beauty in all types of landscapes. This let me also find beauty in all types of things in general. I started taking digital photography classes my sophomore year of high school, and am now at Northern Arizona University, studying Marketing and Spanish, with a minor in photography.
For me, photography is a way to capture the most seemingly ordinary things and present them in a way that makes them seem special. My favorite way to express this idea is through landscape and architecture photography, however I think you can apply this thinking to nearly every type of photography. The way my friend looks in an image I take of them is completely different from the way they look when I’m just having a conversation with them, or the way a shack in the desert looks just that until you snap the shutter and suddenly, it is something beautiful. Having grown up in the American southwest, the desert is something that has and will continue to inspire the type of work I produce, as seen in my New Topographics work. As an artist, I hope to not lock myself to one style or subject in my work. I love to experiment in different thought, shooting and editing processes and have never found one that I seem to love more than any other. I’d like to keep it that way.
